Wow... all those buttons. 😁 So much to tinker with, is there an un-cage for missiles? 😆 Nah, just the machine guns on the Mercedes these days. Why do you think they still have one of these on the cars?

Yeah, I cut down my steering in half cause it just wouldn't turn. Probably still a tad much but it basically forces me to take the turns at a proper speed

I always set my rotation angle to 360° in the Thrustmaster software before booting up the program. I read somewhere that is the actual angle used in the game, and it matches up with the wheel visible in game, so that works for me. If you're still running a default 900° or 1080°, I can imagine you need to turn the wheel a looong way for it to do anything.

If you're still running a default 900° or 1080°, I can imagine you need to turn the wheel a looong way for it to do anything. For F1 2020, I’ve got mine set now to 300 vs the 540 for DR2. I’ve changed some of the FFB settings as well, which has made the car feel more like a go-kart than the family saloon. 😆 Straight away I took a second off my best lap time round Melbourne. I’ve got to sort out my PoV/TIR position as I’m not using the mirrors at all with the default setup. TIR is only used for peering round the halo. I’ve just got to my first race, how the heck do you get away cleanly? I get there’s some kind of launch control going on, but anytime I put my foot down and accelerate, I lose the back end. The only way I can get away is to feather the throttle, lose the wheel spin and go through the gears quickly until I’m in 4th. By then I’m 5 places down the grid. I like the AI so far. Driving seems robust, but does give way if you have the right of way. I need to check what settings it’s on as it seems easy to outbrake on most slow corners. I’m really enjoying this though as a racing simulator. I think I mentioned before, in a DR2 thread on Mudspike, normally I don’t like racing AI as it’s too easy and get quickly bored. This seems different and with the additional bits of creating your team, has more depth and longevity.

I have mine 270, seemed to make sense, I've gone from 1080 to 540 so next was 270 The launch I have yet to master, took me a bit to realize there is a separate rev counter. Best I could do was pump the gas and make sure I wasn't shifting too much when I could tell the speed wasn't matching the gear. It's hard though imo cause those gears go so fast.

After a bit of experimentation I think I've found the key to good starts. In every other sim I've ever driven, usually the technique is to hold the revs at 2/3, then when the flag drops, dump the clutch and give an initial extra bit of throttle, and feather as necessary.
F1 2020 is a little different. Basic procedure starts the same, hold the clutch (upshift button), and build the revs. The optimum suggested range seems to be just below when the first shift lights come on. Then, when the lights go out, dump the clutch but HOLD the same amount of throttle! Do not increase it! Just let it ride out at that throttle setting, and shift into second when the shift lights say to. Once you're in second or third you can usually start feeding in more throttle, feathering as necessary, until you're at full power.
It will probably take a few practice starts to get it down, but once you do you can generally keep up with the AI at the start, rather than just getting swamped.

So plot twist, got the wheel today, haven't tried it yet but the box says 150° wheel... will have to get my DR2 race done so I can play with this. Not sure if that's what I'm suppose to set it at though. That's even smaller than the smallest I've seen suggested before by a good bit, interesting.

So, anyone have a suggestion for a track we can do a test race at?

At first I was quite confused about this, as restricting the rotation to 150° made no sense. After a little research, I just had to laugh. That's not the wheel rotation, it's the name of the car! Ferrari 150° Italia
As for the trial race, I was trying to think of a relatively simple circuit with plenty of runoff so in case you do make a mistake, you haven't instantly ended your race. So the natural choice is Monaco of course. Or Silverstone. That may be slightly better.

yes, i um realize that now... SPA would be perfect if it weren't for the last 2 turns that I know are going to be a disaster in a pack. I'll have to look some more, they conveniently have "difficulty" levels listed for the tracks.

So uh, I need to figure out what each button does in real life... wheel feels pretty sweet though, flappy paddles are extremely clicky though. So was the one on the regular wheel for awhile. I eventually wore that down as to be quite.

Would have responded earlier, but had a wildfire pop up a little over a mile from my house Wednesday afternoon. Was on "get ready" evacuation notice and just outside the "go now" area, so had disconnected my computer. Thankfully the wind blew the fire parallel to where I live, so barley got even a whiff of smoke. Took the opportunity to clean out the dust in my computer in the meantime, so was down for a few days.
Anyways, I'm back! And looking forward to some F1 action.
